Steve Wanick, D.V.M. |
I graduated from Kansas State University with a D.V.M.
degree in 1971. Also, I received a BS in Biological Sciences in 1969 from K.S.U.
Born and raised in Wichita Kansas, I moved to Arizona in 1971 to accept my first
veterinary position at Tucson Small Animal Hospital in Tucson, AZ. I then moved to
Phoenix, to work at the Arizona Humane Society Veterinary Clinic for one
year. I then took a position at Northern Animal Hospital and worked there
with Dr. Gabor Vajda until 1973, when I decided it was time to go out on my own.
I purchased a small building on the SE corner of 83rd Ave. and Washington St. in the
old downtown district of Peoria. That was in the fall of 1973. The building used to
be the old Peoria Café, but I never really saw it operating. I had to clear out old
kitchen equipment and had the place remodeled into a small veterinary clinic. It had only
one exam room and a total of only 800 square feet of space. The clinic opened in
December 1973.
Back then, when I first started Peoria, the population was only around 10,000 and times
were slow. After six years of steady growth, business began to flourish, and I had the
opportunity to be an owner/ partner in the building where we are currently located at 9460
W. Peoria AVE Suite A, Peoria, AZ. We moved to that location in 1979 and are
still there now.
I have been a resident of Peoria since 1973.
Other interests include music, volleyball, guitars, water sports. fishing, travel and
singing.
I've been a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association since 1971, AZ
Veterinary Medical Association, Central AZ Veterinary Medical Association, Member of Alpha
Zeta veterinary academic fraternity(top 5% of graduating
class), past director and current member of Peoria Chamber of Commerce, and past Member
and officer of Peoria Rotary Club.
My philosophy of practice has always been to treat the people who come to see me like they
were a friend or a relative of mine. By that, I mean to be honest and fair with them and
treat them and their pets with respect and fairness. Sometimes people come to me and say
they really appreciate the honest, straightforward answers they get from us regarding
their pets medical problems.
We try our best to care for our patients knowing that every one of them is somebodys
little "best friend".

Sheryl K. Scrimager, D.V.M. |
I graduated from Michigan State University in 1968 and
practiced small animal medicine for 9 years in Michigan.
The year of 1977 saw the whole family - myself, my husband,
cockatiel, and poodle trekking west to Arizona. We settled in the Phoenix area where I
have worked at several area practices over the years. I have been here at Peoria Animal
Hospital since December, 1994.
I guess my practice philosophy is to be honest and communicate
as fully as possible with clients about their pets. I try to give each patient the time
and attention needed for the situation.
Then I go home at night and get thoroughly sniffed over by my
2 poodles who want to know if they are still my best buddies.
